2020 - Destination Declutter - 1st January 2020

Another New Year has arrived!

Will you use this New Year as an impetus for change? This is about a lot more than making resolutions at midnight.

There's a saying that you might have heard before, it's attributed to Henry Ford. Clearly he was not a man to rest on his laurels!

'If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got!'

You might think it's a bit trite sounding, but actually I think it makes a good point. A point which is especially relevant at New Year. I have no idea when the concept of New Year's Resolutions took hold, but it's something I've been aware of since I was a teenager. I never really took up the gauntlet though. Back then I aspired to losing some weight, but to actually name that goal at midnight felt like too big a step. Deep down I realised that in order to lose weight I needed to do a whole lot more than simply make a resolution.

I needed to change my habits. I needed to adopt a more healthy lifestyle which would have meant less sugary snacks and more exercise amongst other things. I probably knew I didn't have the willpower to stick with it and see it through to make the resolution a reality. Instead, I chose to avoid the issue and the resolution.

New Year's Resolutions - do they feel too scary?

Even as an adult I have fought shy of New Year's Resolutions. They seem to come with a hefty dose of obligation and hard work, not to mention the whisper of potential failure which I find offputting.

Depending on your conditioning you may also find a resolution to be too much to handle. If you didn't commit as the clock struck midnight you might think you've missed your chance regarding New Year and using it to promote positive changes in your life such as decluttering. I'm here to tell you that is not true at all!

Provided you can feel the freshness of a new start as we progress through January you can still jump onto that New Year bandwagon.

Think of New Year as a vehicle for change

Imagine boarding the 2020 tour bus right at the start of its journey. You're the driver - it's down to you what route it takes. Nobody else, just you. I hope you find that a liberating thought?

Maybe that feels a bit scary though. Then what? Do you feel like your driver still has 'L' Plates? Maybe the driver has never driven a bus before?

Think of what destinations your tour bus might visit during the year. If you're reading this it might be a good idea to prioritise Destination Declutter! That might feel even more scary, and I do understand the feelings of overwhelm that are part of your situation.

Think back to that quote from Henry Ford. He knew about progress!

If you really genuinely want to declutter then you absolutely need to do something differently.

What if that something was getting specialised support?

I have a variety of ways I work with clients but right now I am promoting my 28 Day Declutter Toolkit which starts on Friday February 7th. You can read more about it here.

I hope you have a read of the information and contact me with any questions. If you read it and feel even a bit of a pull to do it, then act on your intuition and contact me so we can have a chat. Your intuition is the part of you that knows what is the best course of action. It's OK to feel a bit aprehensive - all my clients have felt like that. Just don't let it stall the engine of your bus!

Will you take Henry Ford's advice and DO something different - in order to GET something different this year?
